2) CHOOSING YOUR SCENE MATERIAL
When self-taping for a Casting Director, they often choose your material for you. For a scene or monologue, you get to choose your own material. Be sure to choose a character who is close to your age and matches your gender presentation.
Choose a scene that you can relate to with a situation that you may have experienced in your own life or can easily imagine could happen to you. Being able to draw on your own life experiences will make it easier for you to perform the scene authentically. It will also give the prospective agent or Casting Director a chance to get to know who you are, rather than see a character that you have created.
Authenticity is a big word in today’s industry. This is an opportunity for people to get to know the authentic you in this first demo scene.
