CHOOSING YOUR BEST PHOTOS

Your photo and resume is your first introduction to your potential agent or Casting Director. It should show your brand as a performer. It shows that you know the standards of our industry, that you are professional, enthusiastic and serious about your career.

You should have 3 main photos in your portfolio: a tightly cropped Commercial Headshot (friendly, smiling with teeth), a tightly cropped Dramatic headshot ("I am a serious actor, I can play serious roles") and a waist up photo which shows body type or proportion.

Use Colour photos NOT Black & White for your main photos.

Most actors have 3 - 8 photos in their portfolio.

All photos should look professional (no selfies, good focus, great lighting, we can see your eyes clearly). You can get a professional looking photo without paying the highest price.

Your extra photos should show variety (the range of ages you can play, different looks, attitude, different characters (university student, parent, business person).

Your photo library selections should be interesting for the people who are looking at them. If you have special athletic skills you can use one or more of your extra photos spaces to show your extra abilities.

Photos should show how you look now, at your current age. Most photos should be updated every 5 - 8 years depending on how quickly you change as you get older. Children grow fast and may need new photos more often.

Please do not use complicated makeup or hairstyles. Your look should be easy to reproduce if you are asked to audition. If the audition is happening quickly you may have less than an hour to prepare.

Be kind to yourself - Remember that there are roles for every actor type. The photo that you do not like the most, may be the photo that is more interesting to your prospective agent or Casting Director.
